Halal food and mosques

Chengdu has a long-established Hui Muslim community and several mosques, including the Huangcheng Mosque. Halal beef noodle shops and halal hot pot restaurants are easy to find, and our guides can point out the nearest ones.

What to see and do in Chengdu

Fiery bowls, slow afternoons

Chengdu has a local word for its way of life: anyi, a kind of comfortable ease.

Follow one unhurried day, from eight in the morning to ten at night.

Giant Panda Base

Pandas eat breakfast at eight. Arrive at opening time, before the heat and the crowds, and watch them work through fresh bamboo.

Up to 14 hours of eating, every day.

Feed the panda

Breakfast is bamboo, and lots of it. Drag or tap a stick to feed him.

Jasmine tea in a gaiwan

A lidded bowl of jasmine tea, topped up with hot water for as long as you care to stay.

People's Park teahouse

Bamboo chairs, card games, and a master who cleans ears between the tables. Locals stay all morning.

Lunch: mapo tofu

Silky tofu in red, numbing sauce, made with beef. We point you to halal kitchens on request.

Kuanzhai Alley

Three Qing-era lanes of grey brick, courtyard gates and tea. Wander with no plan.

Wenshu Monastery

Incense, chanting and a bronze bell among carved wooden halls. Stay for vegetarian noodles at the monastery restaurant.

Hot pot by night

Red broth, numbing pepper, and a table that talks for hours.

Pick your spice level

Chili-oil wontons

Silky wontons in red chili oil, a little sweet, gently hot.

Ask for 'wei la' (mildly spicy) when ordering; the default level is very hot.

Anshun Bridge by night

Walk the Jinjiang River as the covered bridge glows gold on the water.

On stage, the masks change in a blink.

Faces change in a blink

Sichuan opera night

Face-changing and fire-spitting on a teahouse stage in Chengdu.

Good night, Chengdu.

Fiery on the tongue, gentle at heart.

One more slow day

Easy day trips from Chengdu, if you have time to spare.

His ears alone are 7 m long.

Carved into a red sandstone cliff over 90 years.

Dujiangyan irrigation system

Around 256 BC, governor Li Bing split the Min River with a man-made island, and the system still waters the Chengdu plain today.

Mount Qingcheng

One of the birthplaces of Taoism, this forested mountain is laced with mossy stone paths and quiet temples.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

Who operates the tours in China?

All ground services are delivered by licensed partner travel agencies in China, with licensed local guides. We design your journey and stay your single point of contact from first message to flight home.

How much does a journey cost?

Every journey is private, so the price depends on your dates, group size, hotel level and route. Send us your plan and we quote within 24 hours. There is no deposit: you pay 80% when you arrive and 20% when your trip ends.

Is this a good choice for a first trip to China?

Yes. Our journeys are designed with first-time visitors in mind. A private car and local guide handle the language, tickets and transfers, so you can go beyond the big cities without the stress.

Will my phone, WhatsApp and Google work?

Many foreign apps are restricted in mainland China. We arrange an international roaming eSIM or local SIM so WhatsApp and maps keep working, and your guide is always reachable.

How does payment work?

Simple: no deposit. You pay 80% once you have arrived in China and the last 20% when your trip ends. Cancelling before you arrive is free.

Can I end my trip early?

Yes, at any time. We refund the days you don't use, less a small 20% fee on those days only. If the reason is on our side, there is no fee at all.

What is included?

Airport pick-up and drop-off, a private car and driver (you choose the vehicle), hotels from our hand-picked list, licensed multilingual guides, meals arranged by us or on your own, 24/7 support, a local gift for every traveller and free photography.

Can I have an Arabic-speaking guide?

Yes. We arrange Arabic-speaking guides, and our team answers in Arabic on WhatsApp.

How far ahead should I book?

Four to eight weeks is ideal. Chinese public holidays (early October and Chinese New Year) need more notice because hotels, trains and mountain cable cars get busy.
